Fresh food
vendors at Mbale Central and Kumi road markets in Mbale city have received four
new tricycles to ease transportation of their produce.
The vendors received the tricycle through their SACCOs. The
tricycles were handed out by Techno Serve, non- government organization. Techno
Serve is implementing a Horticulture Market Acceleration project(HORTIMAP) with
funding from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Under the project,
they support small holder farmers and traders dealing in fresh food and
vegetables in several parts of the country.
Sarah Gamisha the Elgon Region Business Advisor and
Coordinator for Techno Serve says the tricycles will ease transportation of
fresh food and vegetables from the garden to the markets.
Cassim Mafabi the chairperson of fresh food at Mbale Central
Market wleocmed the support by Techno Serve saying it will support their plan
of transporting perishables in real time.
Esther Wabalaki a fresh food vendor at Mbale Central Market says the donation will save them for the numerous loses they have been incurring as a result of the food and vegetables rotting at the time of transportation.
