The Uganda
Athletics Federation (UAF) has unveiled its Marathon team for the 2024 Paris
Olympics scheduled for August in France.
Led by Dominic Otuchet, the President of
UAF, the athletes selected include Victor Kiplangat, the reigning 42-kilometer
World Champion, Stephen Kissa, the national marathon record holder, and Andrew
Kwemoi in the men's category.
In the women's category, the team
comprises Stella Chesang, the 2019 Commonwealth 10,000-meter Gold medalist,
Mercyline Chelangat, the 2019 Commonwealth bronze medalist in the 10,000-meter
event, and Rebecca Cheptegei, the 2023 regional cross-country Champion.
Otuchet explains that these athletes
were chosen based on their fastest seasonal times, as required by World
Athletics and the Olympic Committee.
Njia Benjamin, the National coach and
Vice President of Technical, reveals that the announced athletes are currently
participating in build-up races in Europe, with others undergoing extensive
planned training in Kapchorwa.
