The
Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) has shifted the 2025 National Cross Country
Championships from Tororo Golf Course to the Mbale Golf Course.
The change was confirmed by UAF Vice
President Technical Benjamin Njia, who said the decision was made by the
organizing committee to align the local course with the one that will host the
2026 World Cross Country Championships in Tallahassee, Florida, USA.
The national event is scheduled for
November 15, 2025, and will serve as the main qualification competition for
athletes seeking to represent Uganda at the World Championships on January 10,
2026. According to Njia, the championships will feature a mixed relay, a
10-kilometre race for senior athletes, an 8-kilometre race for junior men, and
a 6-kilometre race for junior women.
Athletes from across the country are
already stepping up their preparations through various clubs.
Peter Chelangat, a coach at Rosa Associates Management in Kapchorwa, said their training programme is focused on ensuring athletes peak at the right time.
