Manafwa residents
and Bugisu at large have been urged to embrace savings in order to improve
household income.
The call was made by Robert Bulolo the chairperson
Kabaale Savings and Credit Farmers Association during the disbursement of
member savings and profits.
Bulolo says the association located in Kabaale
market, Nangalwe Sub County was established with the aim of fighting poverty
amongst communities through savings. With over 2,000 members in Manafwa,
Namisindwa, Bududa, Sironko and Mbale Districts. The association had saved 850million
shillings with the one of the members having savings of over 47 million
shillings.
Nambuya Agnes and Stephen Musimami both members in
the association says they have been able to pay their children’s school fees
and engage in other development projects through accessing cheap credit.
Caroline Khatoko, the woman councilor representing
Khabutoola Parish at Khabutoola Sub County said the association has promoted a
savings culture among residents.
Chris Matembu Wataka a professional accountant and former Parliamentary contestant for Bubulo West Constituency applauded the association leadership for the progress so far registered. Matembu promised to support their cause of fighting poverty at household level.
