Muhammed Mafabi the Mbale LCV Chairperson says that since majority of the staff in Engineering and Health departments are male led, there is need to continue pushing the agenda of the girl child to continue embracing science related courses in order to bridge the gender gap.
Mafabi however says the despite the gaps in engineering and health, other departments have women at the helm. He says the Chief Administrative Officer, Community Development Officer and Agricultural Officer are led by women. He explains that they recently recruited more than 200 teachers of which 163 were women.
Mafabi also explains that the offices of the Mbale Resident District Commissioner and the District Police Commander also held by women. According to Mafabi, this is positive step towards appreciating the role of women in improving the delivery of services at local government level.
