Revenue collection at local government level is to be
digitized.
This was
announced by Maris Wangera the acting director for debt and cash policy at the
finance ministry at the Eastern region local government consultative budget
conference for the 2024/2025 financial year. The conference was held at Mount
Elgon Hotel.
Wangera says
government loses huge sums of money as a result of corrupt public officials who
opt not to declare money collected.
She explains that
since revenue collection at national level is now collected digitally, local
governments should follow suit.
Jean Bageya head
of planning at the local government finance commission welcomed the plan to
digitize local revenue collections saying it will boost the country’s tax base.
